The Manlius Swan Pond has been a local landmark and gathering place for over 60 years. While famous for the swans and ducks that hold court in the pond, the pond has been the home for restaurants adjacent to the pond, with Whats Your Beef occupying the location for over 30 years. Joey and Janice DeCuffa, along with brother Rick DeCuffa brought their own vision of dining to the Swan Pond in April 2012 with the opening of “Bella Cigna”, which is Italian for beautiful swan and certainly is a befitting name for the restaurant that overlooks the pond where “Manny and Faye” now hold court with their recently born “cygnets”, Bella (named for the restaurant) along with her siblings, Laverne, Holly, and Dazzle. Manny and Faye stands for Fayetteville and Manlius, the two villages closest to the pond.
Joey DeCuffa has owned and operated Joey’s Italian Restaurant, along with Pronto Joeys, in Carrier Circle on Thompson Road since 1982. Joey and Janice DeCuffa made Joeys TI Club on Wellesley Island a summer sensation for 8 years until they decided to move back closer to home, and after a complete makeover of the building that formerly housed “The Saucy Swan”, Bella Cigna was officially “hatched” on April 3, 2012 to a hungry community ready to dive into the classic Italian American cuisine that Joey and Rick are noted for, along with each of their own interpretations of classics from the East and West. For those legions of Joey’s Italian fans, take heart, for at Bella Cigna you get the best of the DeCuffa brothers culinary talents, where Executive Chef Rick DeCuffa leads the kitchen with Joey providing the inspiration and experience that made Joey’s at Carrier Circle a landmark.
Bella Cigna, like Joey’s, believes in supporting local sources for their ingredients. The food of Bella Cigna is hand crafted, with pastas made fresh, sauce made with imported San Marzano tomatoes from the DeCuffa family recipe handed down over the years, and with a pastry chef on staff, your meal from start to finish is created by skilled cooks. The entire menu is essentially “classic” dishes with Pasta Bolognese, Eggplant Parmigiana, Chicken Riggies, with some contemporary twists such as Chef Rick’s Apple & Melon Salad, Tuna Sashimi and Salmon with Apples. Just make sure to save room for dessert ! all the desserts are hand crafted on premises by pastry chef Leslie Lisk, with something to satisfy every sweet tooth.
While the house menu is exceptional in every way, don’t miss the opportunity to sample any of the daily specials created by Chef Rick DeCuffa and his talented staff ! Bella Cigna will have a new bar menu soon for those that want to savor a cocktail or wine along with a taste tempting treat at the bar. The bar at Bella Cigna was completely rebuilt and features a full selection of wine, cocktails, bottle beer and 8 beers on tap including local favorite Empire Brewing.
And just like the swans, Manny and Faye, Bella Cigna is also hatching other new plans, with a beautifully designed awning for outdoors dining with the spectacular backdrop of the pond, fountain and swans and ducks on parade.
There are 20 indoor tables and 8 outdoor deck tables, with total seating capacity of 100, and these seats fill up fast, so reservations are highly recommended. Bella Cigna can host private parties and also does off premises catering, please call the restaurant for details.
